UM-Flint High School Honor Band Weekend

 

General Information

The Department of Music of the University of Michigan-Flint is pleased to announce the High School Honor Band weekend to be held on the Flint Campus, culminating in a performance by the student musicians on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at 3 PM. The band will be selected on the basis of the nomination of the respective band director.  Any student currently enrolled in grades 9-12 who is in good standing with their high school band or orchestra may be nominated.  UM-Flint Assistant Professor of Music Chris Heidenreich will conduct the band in 2012.

In addition, prospective members may choose to audition to be the one student selected to perform as soloist with the Honor Band in a concerto or other featured work for wind band and soloist. Please see attached for further details regarding this special opportunity.

Important Dates

Nomination Deadline              November 1, 2012

Chair Audition/Placement
and Reading Night                 Tuesday, November 20, from 4-8 PM

Honor Band Weekend            Saturday, December 1, from 9-3:30 PM
                                                    Sunday, December 2, from 12:30-4:30 PM
                                                    Concert Performance begins at 3 PM

Chair placement within each section will be determined by an audition performed on the music that is scheduled to appear on the concert.

       Please note:      Students are expected to attend all three rehearsals.

 

Nomination Procedure

Nomination does not automatically ensure selection; however, all participating schools will be guaranteed representation.

Directors will be asked to submit nominated student names by Friday, November 1, via email or US Mail utilizing the attached form.

Selected students will be notified before Friday, November 9.

Acceptance letter, registration, and $30 fee are due at the chair audition/placement night; however, students will electronic access to music sent to their email as soon as registration is received (which means students could receive music as soon as mid-October!).

There is no limit to the number of qualified students who can be nominated (but, please remember that many schools will nominate flutes, alto and tenor saxophones).
