Technology Courses for UM-Flint Students
EDT 521 and MPA Cohorts
Students enrolled in EDT 521 are required during the course of the semester to complete 3 tech units (below) per registered academic credit hour. You may choose any combination of courses that will comprise at least 3-5 for one academic credit, 6-9 for two academic credits, or 9-11 for three academic credits.

Screencasting: Creating mini Multimedia Lessons for Teaching and Learning Have you ever had the feeling that using text to express yourself through online conversation is too cumbersome yet not enough? Do you wish sometimes that instead of typing at people you could show them what you are talking about? Now there is an easy way to do this. There are both free and commercial screencasting software programs which enable you to record everything happening on your screen; point, click, scroll, navigate and such an application can follow your every action. This online class introduces you to ways of how you may use screencasts in educational or training settings and enables you to put your skills into action by learning how to use Jing, a free screencasting program. Students enrolled in EDT 521 are required during the course of the semester to complete between 30 – 90 SCECH equivalency hours depending on the number of academic credits they are attempting to earn.
- If you registered for 1 academic credit hour, you must complete 30 SCECH equivalency hours.
- If you registered for 2 academic credit hours, you must complete 60 SCECH equivalency hours.
- If you registered for 3 academic credit hours, you must complete 90 SCECH equivalency hours.

*Prerequisites for this course are Blackboard Basics (or waiver) and Intro to K-12 Teaching Online. This is a very intensive course requiring a high level of computer navigation skills.
