School of Health Professions and Studies (SHPS)
Welcome to the School of Health Professions and Studies
We are now located in 3180 WSW.
SHPS offers eight programs of study:
Nursing,
Physical Therapy, and
Public Health and Health Sciences which offers concentrations in areas such as Anesthesia, Health Care Administration, Health Education, Medical Technology, Radiation Therapy, and Health Sciences.
SHPS also operates an on-site nurse-managed primary care and physical therapy clinic, the
Urban Health and Wellness Center. Also, take a minute to learn more about the

is a dynamic, fast-paced environment; but it is so much
more. Before you can effectively respond to accidents and
other health care emergencies, you need to acquire the proper
knowledge and training necessary to become part of a

those in the healthcare field? Or maybe you are interested

Application for the 2013 Selig Award Available Here!
•Selig Award Applications are Due by April 19th! Applications for the Selig Award of Excellence are currently being accepted. Recipients of the award will receive $2,000.00 which is based solely on merit. To be eligible for the Selig Award, students must be currently enrolled at the University of Michigan-Flint with completion of a minimum four semesters in one of the programs of Public Health and Health Sciences, or other department within the School of Health Professions and Studies, and with a grade point average of 3.6 or higher...Flint Blood Drive in Honor of the 66 Homicide Victims in 2012 was a Great Success!:

New SHPS Program Offerings

New Concentration Added to the Doctor of Nursing Practice: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP)
Because the majority of nurses work in hospitals, they are already familiar with the role of an acute care NP who manages the care of serious and critically ill hospitalized patients. The NP will fill an important role in Flint and surrounding communities for medical centers, hospitals, and specialist physicians. The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program recently received approval from the Presidents Council, State Universities of Michigan, and will be offered in fall 2013. click here.

Accelerated 2nd Degree RN Program
University of Michigan-Flint/Hurley Medical Center Bachelor of Science in Nursing Accelerated Second Degree Programs for students with a previous bachelor's degree who don't have an RN License. For more information click here.

Minor in Public Health Sciences
Health Sciences Administration offers an interdisciplinary selection of courses designed to give all students access to education in public health. This minor provides opportunities for local and global applications of knowledge, analytical skills, problem solving, team work, all from a population perspective. For more information click here.
