Learning Goals

School of Management is committed to provide high-quality management education to prepare our students for intellectual growth, productive careers, and professional development using a variety of learning and teaching approaches that focus on skills, abilities, technology and knowledge vital to organizations.

To achieve this mission, the faculty of the School identified the following learning goals and objectives. The school regularly assesses the extent of its achievement using variety of methods including course-embedded written case analyses, team debates, group problem-solving exercises and projects, presentations, and standardized tests. The assessment results are reviewed by the faculty and appropriate action is taken to achieve these goals as well as continuous improvement.

Students intending to concentrate in general business should complete the following course work:

Goal 1.   Comprehension of discipline specific knowledge
Objective 1.Demonstrate comprehension of accounting

Objective 4.Demonstrate comprehension of quantitative methods

Goal 2.   Understanding of ethical issues and ability to use ethics-based reasoning
Objective 1.Demonstrate the ability to understand and critique the merits of two opposing perspectives of an ethical issue.

Goal 3.   Effective oral and written communication skills
Objective 1.Prepare and deliver a coherent, professional presentation on a business issue
Objective 2.Demonstrate the ability to write a clear, concise, and well-organized analysis of a business case, using correct grammar, composition, and spelling

Goal 4.   Ability to work effectively within a group
Objective 1.Demonstrate ability to contribute substantively to the product of a group
Objective 2.Demonstrate ability to work effectively in a group process
Objective 3.Demonstrate ability to establish effective working relationships with group members and work to resolve any interpersonal conflicts

Goal 5.   Ability to think critically
Objective 1.Demonstrate the ability to effectively use data to analyze a business issue

Goal 6.   Ability to utilize business decision support and productivity tools
Objective 1.Demonstrate ability to utilize spreadsheet technology to enhance analysis and presentation of data related to a specific business issue.
Objective 2.Demonstrate use of computer-based productivity tools to enhance an oral presentation of a business issue.
Objective 3.Demonstrate ability to locate and use internet data sources

Goal 7.   Understanding of the impact of diversity on organizations and the ability to work effectively in diverse groups.
Objective 1.Demonstrate the ability to recognize the distinctiveness of each person's experience and respect the individuality and dignity of each member.
Objective 2.Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others regardless of the degree of diversity
Objective 3.Demonstrate understanding of the various dimensions of diversity
