Become a Physical Therapy Leader with Hands-On Experience at the University of Michigan-Flint
As the demand for highly qualified physical therapists increases, the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at UM-Flint is preparing the next generation of leaders in the field. Graduates of the DPT program can become licensed physical therapists who are able to diagnose and treat patients with movement disorders, help patients restore physical mobility, promote wellness, and improve patients’ quality of life.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nationwide employment of physical therapists is projected to grow by 17% through 2031. Graduates from the program will enjoy many career opportunities, as the BLS forecasts more than 250,000 jobs in the market through the end of the decade.
Our DPT students can grow their knowledge and gain hands-on skills through experiential learning that utilizes patients and community partners in the classroom. Students have the opportunity to participate in HEART, a pro bono student-run PT and OT clinic for our local community, and other community service activities including exercise programming for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Dual Degree Options
Earn two degrees simultaneously! Students interested in pursuing leadership roles can combine a DPT degree with a Master of Business Administration earned through UM-Flint’s respected School of Management; while those with an interest in teaching and/or research have the opportunity to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy degree while working toward their DPT.
Accreditation
The DPT program at UM-Flint is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. CAPTE only accredits entry-level DPT programs. The DPT program at UM-Flint satisfies educational prerequisites for professional licensure as a physical therapist in all 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
