Proof of English Proficiency
First-year applicants from countries or regions in which English is not the primary language of instruction are required to demonstrate English proficiency in order to be admitted to the UM-Flint.

- First-Year students who have attended four years in a U.S. high school with grades of “C”/2.0 or better in all English classes; Must submit official transcripts to verify.
- UM-Flint’s TOEFL institution code is 1853
- All English proficiency scores can be submitted via iService except Duolingo.
- Applicants who are citizens of or who completed their previous education in an English proficiency-exempt country may not be required to submit additional proof of English proficiency.

Scores must be no more than two years old. The minimum acceptable scores are as follows:
- TOEFL Internet-based test: 84 (institution code 1853)
- TOEFL Essentials: overall score of 8.5
- IELTS: 6.5 (Academic Writing not General Training)
- Duolingo: 110
- Cambridge English B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 176 (scores should be from within the past five years)
- Pearson PTE Academic: overall score of 56
- MET: overall score of 52 (B2 level)
- ECPE: Certificate of proficiency

Scholarships
- CIT Non-Resident Graduate Tuition Scholarship – The Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship covers up to 100% of the difference between the residential and non-residential graduate tuition rates and is renewable in subsequent terms. Students must meet GPA and other criteria listed below to be eligible for the scholarship
- Global Graduate Merit Scholarship – A competitive merit-based scholarship available to international graduate students. Recipients must view themselves as cultural ambassadors.
- Undergraduate First Year Merit Scholarship
Guidelines
- Student should be admitted by may 1st with a minimum recalculated incoming GPA of 3.25 (4.0 scale), scholarship is renewable every semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at UM-Flint.
- Scholarships will be applied directly to the student’s tuition account.
Other Financial aid Opportunities
- University of Michigan-Flint General Scholarships – UM-Flint is proud to offer many scholarships for students. Majority of the scholarships, students must submit an online application during the application period of Dec.1 through Feb. 15. Graduate scholarships have an extended deadline from March 1 through June 1
It is important to note that application requirements vary by scholarship, so students are encouraged to read all criteria and requirements carefully before submitting any applications.

On-Campus Housing
Residents in our two halls, First Street and Riverfront.
First Street Residence Hall
First Street Residence Hall is home to all of our first-year students. Students living in First Street and first time in college must have a meal plan.
Double Suites
- Two bedrooms (one or two people in each bedroom)
- Bedroom: 13 feet x 11 feet
- Common living area: 10.5 feet x 11.5 feet
Riverfront Residence Hall
Riverfront Residence Hall is home to upper-class and graduate students. Students living in Riverfront have the option of having a meal plan.
