Peer Education Program

Peer Educators are UM-Flint students with extensive training who help educate their peers about consent, bystander intervention, gender, sexuality and sexual violence prevention.

Peer Educators are committed to teaching skills that will help students to reduce the potential for stressful life experiences (primary prevention) and to resolve stressful situations more quickly should they arise. Peer Educators develop and deliver workshops to the campus community and assist professional staff with outreach programming.

Educational Programming
CGS Professional Staff and Peer Educators facilitate information sessions, workshops, and presentations held as academic class sessions, certificate programs, or one-time events. To request a Peer Educator training please submit a program request form here.

Sexual Violence Support & Advocacy

What is an Advocate? An advocate is someone who provides a safe and confidential space for you to process a difficult experience, share resources, and information, and speak to other support services on your behalf. If you are unsure about what steps to take in reporting an incident of sexual or gender-based violence, speak with our confidential Sexual Assault Advocate or CGS Director for support.

Advocacy Services Include:

  • Sexual Violence resources and recovery information
  • Safe Space
  • Survivor resources and support for non offending friends and family members
  • Center staff available for confidential conversations to learn more about services for survivors of sexual violence please visit our Creating Safer Spaces page.

As a center, we partner with several campus and community-based services to support students. If you are interested in making a report, in need of medical coverage or care, or have questions about sexual health, please contact the resources found on Our Community Matters guide.

The UM-Flint’s Student Caregiver Resource Guide is designed to support students who are also caregivers. It offers a comprehensive list of resources including affordable childcare options such as Great Start to Quality, GISD Early Headstart, and the Great Start Readiness Program. The guide provides information on classroom accommodations and emergency funding through both on-campus services, like the Office of Financial Aid, and off-site resources, including the City of Flint’s assistance programs. Financial assistance is available through scholarships, grants, and the Rx Kids program, which provides cash support for pregnant moms and newborns in Flint. Food and toiletry access is addressed with on-campus options like Wolverine Essentials and off-site resources, including the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. The guide also highlights family-friendly events, family planning and medical care, LGBTQIA+ parent resources, parenting support organizations, lactation and doula services, child and family counseling resources, summer camps, and legal support through the university and external services. Lastly, it lists activities for kids around Flint to ensure comprehensive support for student caregivers.
