Student Travel Funding Opportunities
Winter/Summer 2025 CIT Student Researcher Travel Award
Funding is available for the Winter and Summer 2025 semesters to sponsor CIT student travel to a research conference or comparable research venue. The funding will cover travel expenses, including conference registration, airfare/transportation, and hotel.
CIT faculty can submit an application on behalf of their student researcher, or student researchers can submit it directly.
Requirements for funding eligibility and application include:
- The student must be presenting a publication, position paper, or other form of archival work at the conference, which is linked or attached to the application. Peer-reviewed publication presentations will be given priority.
- Justification of why the conference is a “top tier” venue in the student’s field (e.g., a top 5 venue according to Google’s H5 index)
- A letter of support from the student’s faculty advisor that explains why they deserve and/or need the travel funding
Funded students must acknowledge the student travel fund in any presentation materials at the conference and in any publications (if the camera-ready deadline has not already passed). Funded students must also report the conference experience within a week of returning.
Applications will be received on a rolling basis. The application site will remain open until the travel funding is exhausted or the summer 2025 semester has concluded.
CIT Student Travel Grants
The same application link is valid for other CIT student travel grants to present at conferences or events. Up to $800. The application requires the InfoReady form and proof of paper acceptance.

UM-Flint Student Research Endowed Funds
Student Research Endowed Funds support new and promising research endeavors conducted by UM-Flint students, encourage individual or group scholarly work, and recognize ambitious student research agendas. These funds support student research expenses, including supplies, printing, human subject incentives, and state, regional, or national conference-related costs.
Funded research projects must be conducted under the supervision of a UM-Flint faculty member; therefore, a Faculty Advisor’s endorsement is necessary.
Maximum funding is $1000 per award per year. Students should seek matching funds from their departments or comparable funding agencies. The total amount awarded from all sources (including Fran Frazier Awards, department funding, and these Student Endowed Funds), may not exceed total funds needed for the project or conference. Additionally, funds received from other sources must be reported to the Office of Research. Finally, receipts may not be submitted to multiple departments/units for reimbursement.
