ANNOUNCEMENTS
We are excited to announce that the applications are now open for the MI Future Educator Fellowship, Michigan Achievement Scholarship, and MI Future Educator Stipend. Future educators are encouraged to apply early. Eligible students who submit their applications will be placed in a priority group for payment.
The 2024-2025 Scholarship Application is now closed. For a majority of scholarships, students must submit an online application during the application period of December 1st through February 15th for undergraduate students. Graduate students have an extended period from March 1st to June 1st.
On holiday weekends, student email responses will be delayed until early the following week.
Important Information for Federal Student Loan Borrowers:
Be Prepared for Repayment
Congress recently passed a law preventing further extensions of the payment pause. Student loan interest has resumed, and payments are due starting in October 2023.
Prepare now! Borrowers can log in at studentaid.gov to find their loan servicer and create an online account. The servicer will handle billing, repayment options, and other tasks related to your federal student loans. Borrowers should update their contact information and monitor their loan status as the repayment pause end date gets closer. Find more information on borrower repayment here. Failure to repay federal student loans greatly impacts your credit score. Avoid delinquency and default by taking action now!
Financial Aid Deadlines
The 2023/2024 FAFSA is still available for the current academic year. The 2023-24 FAFSA includes Fall 2023, Winter 2024 and Summer 2024.
The 2024-25 FAFSA is available now. Always apply early to be considered for the best aid offer. March 1, 2024 is the priority deadline for all students.
*The 2025-26 FAFSA will return to an October 1 release date.

Applying for Financial Aid
Regardless of your financial situation, UM-Flint strongly encourages all students to apply for financial aid, which qualifies you to receive financial support and helps lower the cost of your college education.
The first step to planning for and obtaining financial aid is completing your FAFSA. During this process, add the UM-Flint Federal School Code—002327—to ensure all your information is sent directly to us.
Applying as soon as possible increases your chances of receiving more financial aid funds.
To qualify for financial aid, you must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant must be admitted to a degree-granting program*.
- The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, or other eligible noncitizen classification.
- The applicant must be making satisfactory academic progress.

UM-Flint Cost of Attendance
What Is the Cost of Attendance?
The cost of attendance (COA) refers to the estimated total cost of attending UM-Flint for one academic year. It typically includes various expenses such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation, and personal expenses.
UM-Flint calculates the COA, which typically varies depending on factors such as whether you live on or off campus, your residency status (in-state or out-of-state resident), and the specific program of study.
Planning for Your Cost of Attendance
In UM-Flint’s Student Information System (SIS), you find a list of an estimated budget—typically based on the expense patterns of UM-Flint students—used to calculate your financial aid awards.
We recommend planning your budget and assessing the resources needed to meet your actual expenses using our COA information, which can help you calculate your budget and the amount you and your family must contribute or borrow for your education. Additionally, we encourage you to use the Net Price Calculator to determine your budget.
First-Year Merit Scholarships
Instantly available to motivated students with strong academic records, our First-Year Merit Scholarship program offers awards ranging up to $10,000 a year, with limited full-ride awards available.
Connect with the Cashier’s/Student Accounts Office
UM-Flint’s Cashier’s/Student Accounts Office oversees the student account billing, ensuring that students are familiar with essential policies and procedures related to campus funds. They help students by providing services such as:
- Assessing tuition and fees to student accounts based on the courses a student has registered for, as well as making any adjustments to tuition and fees based on classes added/dropped through the Office of the Registrar.
- Disbursing financial aid.
- Sending bills to students. The first bill for incoming first-year students, transfers, or new graduate students is printed and mailed to the address on file. All subsequent bills will be sent via email to the UMICH email address.
- Assessing any late fees to the account.
- Processing payments to student accounts via cash, check, credit card, or third-party financial aid.
- Releasing stipend checks (excess financial aid funds) to students on an account-by-account basis via check or direct deposit.
