UM-Flint’s online MSAF program is designed to be accessible to full-time or part-time students and busy working professionals from a wide geographic area. The Master of Science in Applied Finance program is offered entirely online. This online asynchronous format provides flexible interactions that accommodate many students’ and professionals’ busy lives. Online learning is done through many methodologies including discussion boards, online chats, podcasts, video meetings, and other methods. The University of Michigan-Flint utilizes the Canvas learning platform for its online education.

The UM-Flint Applied Finance program is accredited by AACSB International, the highest accrediting body for business schools worldwide. Only 5.5% of business schools are accredited by AACSB. Applied Finance Curriculum

The MSAF program is designed for those seeking to take their quantitative capabilities in finance to the next level. Financial leaders seeking to enhance their decision-making skills will benefit from cutting-edge training in financial management, applied statistics and quantitative methods, data analytics and financial modeling, investment analysis, and portfolio management. The MSAF program allows participants to tailor their finance training best suited to their career needs, with concentrations in either corporate finance or investment. How to Apply to the MS in Applied Finance?

Admission Requirements – No GMAT Required

Admission is open to qualified graduates of accredited colleges and universities, regardless of their undergraduate major. Applicants should have strong quantitative and analytical skills. Applicants need to hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

  • $55 application fee (non-refundable)
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Please read our full transcript policy for more information.
  • For any degree completed at a non-U.S. institution, transcripts must be submitted for an internal credential review. Read the following for new International Transcript Evaluation instructions on how to submit your transcripts for review.
  • If English is not your native language, and you are not from an exempt country, you must demonstrate English proficiency (additional information can be found below).
  • Statement of Purpose: a one-page, typed response to the question “What are your goals in finance and how will the MSAF contribute to accomplishing these goals?” 
  • Résumé including all professional and educational experience 
  • Two letters of recommendation: can be professional and/or academic. One supervisor recommendation is required. Please utilize the recommendation form provided within the online application.
  • Students from abroad must submit additional documentation.

This program is fully online. Admitted students will not be able to obtain a student (F-1) visa to pursue this degree. However, students living outside the US may complete this program online in their home country. Application Deadlines

To be considered for admission, all application materials must be submitted on or before:

  • Fall Semester Early Deadline: May 1*
  • Fall Semester Final Deadline: August 1
  • Winter Semester: December 1 
  • Summer Semester: April 1

*You must have a complete application by the early deadline to guarantee application eligibility for scholarships, grants, and research assistantships.
