Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention

The University of Michigan-Flint is committed to providing a safe learning environment that supports the health and well-being of all students and members of the campus community. The University recognizes that abuse of alcohol and/or other drugs can be a major obstacle to personal and academic success and impact the entire campus environment. Prevention, early detection, timely intervention, and treatment are essential to reducing the negative impact of alcohol and other drugs.

Alcohol and other drug abuse may impact academic success in the following ways:

  • Counseling & Psychological Services
    CAPS offers free and confidential mental health support through counseling, group therapy, consultations, crisis services, workshops, and referrals to community providers for all enrolled University of Michigan-Flint students.

  • MHealthy Alcohol Management Program 
    A brief, confidential educational program that helps you eliminate drinking problems by reducing your drinking or stopping altogether.You decide which is better for you: moderation or abstinence. Fee-for-service, however fee is waived for U-M faculty and staff.

  • Get Inclusive 
    Learn more about Alcohol and Other drugs, when to ask for help, how alcohol and other drugs can affect you, and how to take actions to help others.

  • Online Substance Abuse Screenings
    Alcohol, opioid, or general substance abuse screenings.

  • Tobacco Consultation Service
    Students who desire to quit tobacco can participate in a tobacco treatment program through University Health Services and/or access the Tobacco Treatment Virtual Quit Kit.
  • Center for Hope
    Individual and group counseling to help those experiencing emotional or mental health issues, including substance abuse.

  • Flint Odyssey House
    Offers residential and outpatient services to assist with recovery, including detox.

  • Genesee Health System
    Provides services & supports to individuals seeking treatment for substance use disorders. Also provides Narcan and Narcan training.

  • Hamilton Community Health Network
    Outpatient substance abuse counseling. Vivitrol program.

  • Naloxone/Narcan for All: Michigan
    Online and mail-based opioid overdose response training platform that facilitates access to naloxone through the mail. 

  • Wellness AIDS Services
    Safe space where individuals can get tested, exchange syringes, and attend educational workshops. Narcan is available and training is provided.
