What to Bring to Campus
What to Bring for Move-In
Moving from home to college can be overwhelming. When deciding what to bring to college, it is always a good idea for students to contact suitemates and communicate on items. Deciding who will bring what will help you avoid having two of everything (or forgetting something you’ll need).
If packing everything is daunting, or if you forget something, don’t panic! There are several retail and grocery stores near the University of Michigan-Flint. Remember, it is not about bringing everything you need with you. Make a list and check off what you need and will use. If you live nearby, you might want to bring your clothes in shifts, so you don’t have to store everything in your room. We also encourage you to leave sentimental or valuable items home for your valuables’ safety. Keep this list at home in the event something is lost or stolen.
Below is a list of what to bring to campus. There is also a printable checklist.

Can I Bring a Carpet?
In First Street Residence Hall, the suite/bedroom floors are made of wood laminate. If you would like to bring an area rug or carpet, you are welcome to do so. You cannot get carpet installed in your suite/room. Your suite/room is fully furnished, but if you want additional items, that is fine. All furniture that is provided must stay in the suite throughout the duration of the year. We want you to make your room have a personality. When you decorate, you need to remember the guidelines created to keep the residence hall in good condition. You can not drill holes in the wall or paint. Check the Community Living Standards for more details on items allowed in the hall.
