Can I be directly admitted into the RN to BSN completion program or is there a secondary application?

  • Yes, you can be admitted directly into the RN to BSN program.
  • There is no secondary application.
  • When applying, make sure to choose BSN completion as your major (NOT pre-nursing), even if you are still in your Associate Degree in Nursing or have not yet passed your National Council of State Boards of Nursing exam.

Can I start before passing my NCLEX-RN or before graduating with my Associate Degree in Nursing?

  • Students can apply and be admitted directly into the BSN completion program even before finishing their ADN or passing their NCLEX-RN. Students can take all 100-300 level nursing courses, along with any general education courses prior to passing their nursing licensure exam.
  • Apply today to see what transfers in and what you still need to take. You will then work closely with an advisor to create a personalized course plan for you. We can even help you create a concurrent enrollment plan while you are finishing your ADN!

Do credits expire?

  • No. Credit hours do not expire.

Do you require a Michigan Transfer Agreement stamp?

  • No, we don’t require the MTA stamp but we recommend it.
  • The MTA stamp waives all general education credits.
  • If you do not have an MTA stamp, you can complete your general education classes online with UM-Flint.
  • Talk with your UM-Flint advisor to see if enrolling in general education classes with  UM-Flint or completing the MTA stamp at another location would be a better fit for you.

  • No, students do not have to be working as an RN to start or complete our program.
  • We do recommend work experience to further reinforce learning, but it is not a requirement.

How and when do I apply?

How long does the program take?

  • You can complete the program in as little as two semesters (15 credits per semester) if you come to UM-Flint with a full  MTA stamp. Completing a degree in one year requires a commitment to studies and focused time to complete homework assignments. However, this type of schedule is not recommended for full-time working students.
  • The average student takes about 1 ½ years to complete at a part-time pace.
  • You can start the program prior to graduating with your ADN, which can help speed up the process. If you decide to become a concurrent student (i.e., taking classes for your ADN in nursing while enrolling in a BSN program), make sure to work closely with your advisor to meet all rules.

How many credits can transfer in?

  • There is no limit to how many credits are accepted as transfer credits. However, you must complete 30 credits with UM-Flint to receive a degree from UM-Flint.
  • All courses to transfer to UM-Flint require a grade of C or better.
  • The last 30 credits must be completed at UM-Flint (this is called our residency rule).
  • Transfer credit is subject to change. Please talk to the UM-Flint representative before taking any additional coursework.
  • Transfer equivalency website: transfer.umflint.edu

How much does the RN to BSN program cost?

  • It all depends on how many classes you have left to take and how quickly you complete the program.
