Accelerated Nursing Program Curriculum
UM-Flint’s Accelerated Second Degree BSN program kick-starts your nursing education with immersive coursework, clinical practicums, and collaboration with faculty and classmates.
Depending on your academic background, you may need to take up to two semesters of pre-nursing courses, which are a mixture of science courses, such as microbiology, anatomy, and physiology, and non-science classes, like developmental psychology and essential nutrition. These prerequisites lay the groundwork for the nursing courses that make up most of your studies.
The program’s core curriculum spans the breadth of the nursing discipline and strives to develop proficient and compassionate health care professionals. During your studies, you
- Explore how to perform patient assessments, examinations, and other clinical techniques.
- Study how to care for adults, childbearing families, and pediatric patients, as well as how to care for those experiencing mental health issues.
- Understand high-level concepts related to health care policy, nursing research and informatics, and leadership and management.
You also participate in four competency-based classes, which involve coursework in both the classroom and at the Center for Simulation and Clinical Innovation, to build your practical skill application and support your professional development.
Academic Advising
To help you succeed in this intensive nursing program, the School of Nursing provides comprehensive academic advising services. Work with your advisor to determine whether your transfer credits allow you to skip pre-nursing classes, choose classes, navigate program requirements, overcome personal challenges, develop post-graduation plans, and more.
