RN to BSN Academic Practice Partner Program

This groundbreaking partnership between the University of Michigan-Flint School of Nursing and the University of Michigan Health-West (formerly Metro Health) is designed to empower practicing registered nurses with the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree while continuing to gain valuable on-the-job experience.

Through a blend of flexible online coursework, hands-on clinical practice, and interactive learning sessions, RNs can elevate their professional credentials, enhance their clinical skills, and extend their understanding of the complexities within the healthcare environment. The partnership focuses on providing a seamless educational journey that prioritizes convenience for working nurses without compromising the academic rigor and excellence that both institutions represent.

With a shared vision for nursing excellence and making a transformational difference in healthcare, the UM-Flint School of Nursing offers a partnership program for RN-to-BSN education with UM Health-West!

  • The UM-Flint will provide a $2500 scholarship for each UM Health-West Scholar. 
  • Additional support from the UM Health-West tuition assistance program will make this a uniquely affordable opportunity to gain a degree from a university recognized worldwide and, more importantly, to advance the learner’s education to meet the needs of the future of nursing in the next decade.

Tuition is based on the 2024-25 school year (fall 2024-summer 2025). Tuition costs can change every academic year. 
Thirty credits are based on students who transfer in with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited college and have an MTA. If students do not meet these criteria, there may be additional credits required. Apply and speak to your UM-Flint advisor for a personalized course plan. 

STEP 1: Apply to UM-Flint’s RN to BSN program

When applying, make sure to choose BSN completion as your major (NOT pre-nursing), even if you are still in your associate degree in the nursing program. 

STEP 2: Schedule an Appointment

After you are admitted to UM-Flint’s RN to BSN program, please schedule an appointment with an RN to BSN advisor to create a course plan.

STEP 4: Financial aid and Tuition Reimbursement

Make sure to fill out a current FAFSA. If you are planning on using the Transfer Merit Scholarship or any other UM-Flint scholarships, please speak with UM-Flint’s Financial Aid Department before the start of the semester to see if you qualify. If you plan to use tuition reimbursement from UM Health-West, please make sure to speak to UM Health-West’s HR department to see if you qualify.
