Message from Interim Provost Kandogan

This newsletter provides many examples of the impact of our faculty, staff and students with their research, intellectual and creative activities, and their service. In particular, I am proud to see the progress we have been making in raising grant funds to support these activities, as well as some significant milestones such as the 50th anniversary in two of our academic units. These are significant achievements that bring more recognition to our university and make a positive difference in our recruitment efforts.
If you missed the Academic Convocation, in my remarks I shared both some of our collective successes and new and continuing challenges we must address together. You can find a copy here.

Best wishes in the new academic year!

P.S. A reminder that various resources, policies and procedures related to academic affairs can be found at this website.

Dear Colleagues,

I hope your fall semester is off to a productive start!

The VPAA office is currently engaged in launching multiple initiatives in collaboration with both higher education and K-12 institutions, both within Michigan and internationally. Click here for some noteworthy updates from areas under the purview of the VPAA office.

Six students wearing "M Flint" scarves jump joyfully on campus, surrounded by autumn trees with orange and yellow leaves.

Our enrollment numbers for Fall 24 look promising with increases over the past year for undergraduate, graduate, and transfer students. Campus will release official numbers soon.

We are working to increase our international recruitment efforts through stronger relationships, networking and building our agent contracts. Four staff visited several recruitment events abroad over the past three weeks. We are excited to see where these efforts assist with international student growth in Fall 2025.

All campus academic advisor lunch was hosted on September 10. These events provide an opportunity for leadership under the provost area to connect with advisors, listen to concerns, provide feedback on progress made on prior topics brought forth, and keep open lines of communication to assist with retention efforts.

Twelve people of diverse backgrounds stand together in an outdoor setting, all smiling at the camera. The group includes both men and women dressed in a mix of business casual and casual clothing. Behind them, there are trees and a covered wagon. The sky appears cloudy, and there is a traffic light and a few cars visible in the distance.

(…) In the Office of K12 Partnerships, we communicate to high school students and their families that what we offer is of value to them. What we also offer, though, is of even greater worth to them because, despite its critics, I do not believe we can adequately measure the humanizing impact that higher education can have. And while it might sound cliche, it remains one of the most powerful ways to advance our democratic ideals. I will forever champion higher education for these reasons(…)
