Features

The Recreation Center is located next to the University Center at 401 Mill Street, and has three levels that are home to:

  • 3 multi-purpose courts for basketball, volleyball, futsal, soccer, tennis, badminton, and pickleball
  • cardio room with ellipticals, treadmills, lifecycles, stairmaster, free climbers, stair mill, arm ergometer, and rowers
  • strength training area with Cybex machines, free weights, benches, and an Olympic lifting platform
  • 1/10th mile suspended indoor track
  • 4 racquetball/wallyball courts
  • 25-yard, four-lane lap pool, hot tub, and dry suanas
  • 4 group fitness studios
  • 2 multi-purpose rooms
  • Men’s & women’s locker rooms
  • Inclusive locker room with day-use lockers with private changing area/shower

Patrons may also check out a variety of equipment at the front counter, free of charge, for use in the Recreation Center. This includes items such as basketballs and volleyballs, in addition to equipment for badminton, wallyball, pickleball, and table tennis. Please ask a staff member upon your arrival for available equipment.


Facility Access

The Recreation Center is free to all University of Michigan-Flint current & continuing students. Our facility is also open to faculty, staff and the community through memberships.

Students and Rec Center members must present a valid Mcard or Member Card each visit to gain access to the facility. Students and members may also bring in a friend by purchasing a guest pass. Visit our policies for more information on Facility Access.


Additional Spaces on Campus

Esports Lab

Riverfront Building – 206
The esports lab is home to 20 Alienware R11 desktops, 6 Lenovo Leigon T5 desktops and a Nintendo Switch connected to a 75″ Samsung display. The space is exclusively open to varsity team members with Mcard swipe access, and esports club members at designated times. Any student may use the lab during free drop-in lab events, and the space is reservable for events (student orgs, departments, and outside groups) for a fee. Please contact the esports staff for tour or rental inquiries for this space.

Reflection Rooms

Frances Willson Thompson Library – 314
Private, non-reservable room, with bean bags chairs, electrical outlets, shelves for non-personal storage, yoga mats, and prayer rugs. Located on the Library’s third floor, directly across from the main entrance, and available anytime the building is open. Capacity: 3-4 people

William S. White Building – 1209
Private, non-reservable room, soon to be stocked with bean bag chair, prayer rugs, fidget toys and yoga mat. Located on the first floor, just inside the main entrance near the lobby, anytime the building is open. Capacity: 1-2 people


Reservations

Student Organizations
Registered student organizations (VSOs & SSOs) can reserve space in the Recreation Center during regular business hours, free of charge. There are two categories for reservations:

  • Special Events/Large Scale Activities: varies based on activity; see deadlines listed on the reservation inquiry form.
  • Meetings/Small Scale Activities: Club officers may request space for meetings or small group activities in the Activities Room, Aerobics Dance Room & Room 11 at least 24 hours in advance but no more than two weeks in advance.

Note: Long-term, recurring reservations are not available for VSOs.

University Departments
University departments are also able to reserve space in the Recreation Center. Fees may apply.

General Public
The University has special stipulations for event insurance and supervision when a non-affiliate hosts an event on campus. These requirements vary depending on the scope and specifics of your event. Specific requirements for events with minors can be found here, which require a reservation inquiry form to be submitted at least 8 weeks in advance. Reservation and staffing fees apply.


Parking

Parking info for UM-Flint Students and Faculty/Staff can be found on the DPS webpage.  Recreation Center members must display a parking permit and use the lots designated below.

  • Mill Street Parking Deck: anytime, except in otherwise designated spaces.
  • Lot A: before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m., Monday-Thursday; anytime Friday-Sunday.
  • Handicap Parking is available in both Mill Street and Lot A.

Guests present for special events in the Rec Center may use the Mill Street Parking Deck or Lot A.
