If you would like to compliment the actions of, or file a complaint against, an employee of the University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety, there are four ways to do this:
- In Person: Come to DPS. Go to the dispatch office and explain your purpose. A DPS Dispatcher will connect you with an on-duty Police Supervisor.
- Via Telephone: Call 810-762-3333 and explain your purpose. A DPS Dispatcher will connect you with an on-duty Police Supervisor.
- Via Traditional Mail: Send your written communication to:

- The DPS Complaint Brochure: This brochure summarizes police department policies and procedures; it is not a complete account of the professional standards investigation, discipline, and appeal process. Complaints can be filed and processed on actions by any employee of DPS.
Report a Crime or Concern
University community members, students, faculty, staff, and guests are encouraged to report all crimes and public safety-related incidents to the police in a timely manner. Bystanders or witnesses are encouraged to report when a victim is unable to report. Help keep our campus community safe: call DPS as soon as you become aware of any crime, suspicious activity, or public safety concern.

*DPS has police jurisdiction on any UM-Flint property; if the incident occurred off-campus, the report should go to the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction. DPS can help you determine the applicable law enforcement jurisdiction.
**You may also use the Emergency Blue Light Phones located throughout campus to report an emergency. Campus Security Authorities may report Clery Act Crimes here.
Note: U-M Standard Practice Guide 601.91 indicates that anyone who is not a CSA, including victims or witnesses, and who prefers to report crimes on a voluntary, confidential basis for inclusion in the Annual Security Report may do so 24/7 without disclosing their name by calling the Compliance Hotline at 866-990-0111 or using the Compliance Hotline online reporting form.

Shannon Hill is the chief Freedom of Information officer at the University of Michigan. She can be reached at 734-763-4167. The office handles FOIA requests to the Flint, Dearborn, and Ann Arbor campuses.
