Ensuring Your Safe Travel Around Campus
Safe Ride, operated by Department of Public Safety Student Patrol Officers, is a free transportation service within specific geographic boundaries.
Hours of Operation
Safe Ride operates while the University of Michigan-Flint is open and in session throughout the year.

- Safe Ride services are provided as requested and as resources become available. Delays may occur.
- Service Closures: Safe Ride does not operate during university closures or during periods of unusual demand for public safety services.

Safety Rules of Use
- Escort vehicles will wait a maximum of three minutes.
- Escorts may be made for up to six people in total.
- Food is not permitted in the vehicle.
- Alcohol (opened or unopened) is not permitted in the vehicle.
- Escorts will only drive to the pre-planned destination.
- Carry-on items must fit in the rider’s lap.
- Adjustments to vehicle implements/services are prohibited.

Safe Ride is a service provided by DPS. Abuse and/or misuse of this service may result in immediate suspension of Safe Ride privileges by the Chief of Public Safety. Incidents will be forwarded to Student Conduct & Community Standards for investigation under the Code of Student Conduct. Final decisions regarding the use of the service will be made through the Code of Student Conduct.
Safe Ride Service Boundaries
Riders may be picked up and dropped off within these boundaries. Riders will not be picked up or dropped off between campus and Walmart.

- Crapo Street to the East
- DPS facilitates non-medical Safe Ride service to Hurley Hospital from campus.

Shopping Services
DPS, in partnership with Student Government, provides Shopper Services during the in-session fall and winter Semesters.
The shuttle is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The schedule may be adjusted to accommodate the service’s needs.

You can now request rides across campus on demand using the TransLoc app. You can download the app in the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

Mass Transportation Authority
Provides fixed-route bus services within Flint and its suburbs. Most routes run every 30 minutes on weekdays and hourly on weekends.

Guidelines for Using MTA’s Primary Routes for Shopping
- Bag Limit: Only two bags, or as much as a passenger can carry in one trip, are allowed on board.
- Driver Assistance: Drivers do not assist with carrying packages or groceries.
- Safety Requirements: Strollers and shopping carts need to be folded during transportation.
